America – it’s time to find out if you’ve learned anything

March 2, 2016 By Rory Leave a Comment

Americans have a big choice to make. One that will determine whether Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump becomes the next president of the world's only real superpower. A super power, once (before the internet) considered a beacon of freedom. Now the overgrown aberration of a … [Read more...]

Some closing thoughts on Mel McLauglin and Chris Gayle’s ‘Bad Romance’

January 23, 2016 By Rory Leave a Comment

There's been recent hysteria in the Australian sporting media. An uncomfortable incident that uncovered an uncomfortable truth. Casual sexism in the workplace. Sports journalist Mel McLaughlin was interviewing West Indian cricket star Chris Gayle when 'awkward' was taken to … [Read more...]

This is not utopia

November 18, 2015 By Rory 2 Comments

It seems like good timing. My piece for Movember is ready. You may (if you haven't blocked me or deleted me) seen my social media posts recently. Well I've decided that I might step away for a little while. Today my good friend told me that I should take a chill pill. … [Read more...]

Of brothers, and fighting and football and happiness.

September 16, 2015 By Rory 9 Comments

This song saddens and inspires me at the same time. It may add something to the memories while reading. https://youtu.be/o2ZiIPEorP0 Happy Birthday Brother. Well it's September. Traditionally a happy and exciting time of year for me. The bloom of spring and that … [Read more...]

A few words from your daddy now that you’re 5

September 15, 2015 By Rory Leave a Comment

My dearest Nikita. You are now 5 years old. Time flies. My little phenomenon. You could dribble a soccer ball before you could properly walk and indeed, before you stopped dribbling. The way you hit that golf ball the other day? WOW! You once buzzed around the house at a … [Read more...]

The human interviews 5 – Kelly Mouttet Exeter

September 8, 2015 By Rory 3 Comments

The 5th instalment of the Human Interviews is with my big sister Kelly. It's safe to say that we clashed a little in the old days. Mostly because I was always hanging out trying to talk to her girlfriends (who never took me on) or sneaking into her room to play with her … [Read more...]

Childish conversations

August 25, 2015 By Rory 2 Comments

My two daughters fill me daily with laughter. They can brighten any day and also bring a good day to it's knees just as easily. Children are crazy and carefree. They are extremely intelligent. They are honest and just plain crazy. And they start manoeuvring from a very early … [Read more...]

Just another stock standard day at the doctor

June 23, 2015 By Rory 2 Comments

I went for my last immunotherapy appointment yesterday and as usual my two sweet little trolls were in tow. Usually when mentioning them in reference to a doctors visit I might call them 'cheeky devils' or 'naughty little nessies'. They are children after all, and my children. … [Read more...]

The day ‘Blankie’ walked

May 6, 2015 By Rory 3 Comments

I always looked forward to the day we farewelled Blankie. The good lord knows, I've tried to eradicate it's existence earlier. At times, the knowledge of my own somewhat chequered past would have me watching on with a worried frown at the way my eldest sniffed on that filthy … [Read more...]

About Rory

Welcome to Memoirs of the Mind.

Here you will find love, happiness, family, frienship, appreciation of all things beautiful, and continual jabs at intellectual dishonesty and corrupt politicians.

I am a social justice warrior, the gadfly of hypocrisy and advocate of the words 'guilty by omission'.

My aim is to call out the intellectually dishonest among us who refuse to question, communicate or critique.

My current passion is laughing at people who think fake news and Russia is an excuse for Donald Trump and analysing the whining capitulation that has followed.
